Map Doas.— Editor Star» We respectfully call the attention of the Mayor and Councils to the points invoy led in the following article from the Chicago Tribune. If the conclusions arrived at by the scientific men of France are correct, and all the evidence thus far obtained sustains them, our city legislation in relation to dogs has b-en all wrong, and instead of diminishing, its ten- dency thus far has been to increase hydrepho- Via. “The tax upon male dogs is $2 er wnnura, while upon females it is €5; and yet it is clearly proved that this terrible disease originates ai- ways with the male. never with the female, and scarce ever, if at ail, among dogs that run’ wild, where the sexes are nearly equal in number. Let the higher tax be levied upon the male, re. versing the operation of the law as it now stands, and as the female is quicter, more domestic, and Letter tempered than the male, she will be pre- pared, to a sufficient extent, to obviate the pres- ent disproportion of the sexes, and the result will be that we shall not have a single case of hydrophobia, where now there are twenty: The fact that our police have killed more $ . —— hundred 8 on the South Side ting the past year, and corresponding nam- bers on the North and West Sides, by the use of faisoned meat, would imply that considerable abhor is being performed to keep our dog crop Well harvested as the most effectual moans of preventing hydrophobia.
