Beall called the attention of the Board to one of the employes of the west ‘wing of the City Hall getting men in the back way, and added that the party had been atit allday. Mr. Kubn said it was false, and Beall struck his Mr. Kuhn was about to commence rr onr report ¢ afterwards procured a warrant for Mr. Beall’s arrest from Justice Walter; and Beall having heard of it, went over, confessed the char, and paid a fine of $5. Shortly after 7 o'clock, Councilman George W. Hatton made his appear- ‘ance at the City Hall, when a crowd of 50 or 100 corporation employes, hurrahing for Bowen, gathered about him, and tried to provoke him into a fight. Hatton was self-possessed, as usu but the crowd got more and more ex- cited, and were about to proceed to active hos- tilities, when the police, to the mumber of ten or , Went to his assistance, and by using their batons beat the corporation bullies back. but they followed Hatton 4p threatening his life, and several times the police had to actively exert themselves to prevent bloodshed.
