Sabbeth day. Iz the New School Presbyterian Assembiy, the special committee on reunion reported that a Dundred Presbyteries had consented to re- Union on the basis proposed by the Assemblies of 1:68; that seventy-five desired an amend- ment of the first article and the omission of the tenth article of the basis, while only three— Detroit, Washterow, aud Chicago—retused to accept the basis in fof. A few express pref- erence for reunion on the simple basis of the Standard. The report was accepted and referred to a special committee. A delegation from the Old School Assembly Was announced, and as they entered, with Dr. Beatty at their head, the whole body rose and received them with applause. Rey. Dr. Beatty, of the Old School delegation, addressed. the body ina feeling and able speech. He ex- pressed the s@lutations of the body he repre. Sented, and their earnest desire for reunion. He detailed at length the relations that have hitherto existed between the two assemblies, the steps that have been taken towards re- auton, and the mutual advantage to be derived from a reunion of the two bodies. This will probably be the last time, be said, that the assemblies will be called upon to interchange civilities, iasmuch as in the future they will both be one. This remark elicited spontaneous applause He proceeded to enlarge upon the benefits of reunion, and was frequently inter- Tupted with applause, Rev. Dr. Musgrave followed ia e same vein. He was happy to be present as a dele. gate, but would be still more happy to be present as a simple commissioner of the united Bodies of the great Presbyterian Chureh of America. Rev. Dr. Fowler, Moderator, in behalf of the New School Assembly, addressed the delega- tion, thanking them for their kindly words, Sud assuring them that their sentiments on the subject of reunion were fally reciprocated by ‘Bim and the body over which he presided, TRE COURT OF IN. The Scranton miuers, fearfal of the fate of their parts of Pennsylvania, have yoted by 2 positive majority notto sus: pend work in order to advance the price of coal. The arguments which the coal operators and miners advance im justification of the strike are curious enough, and would be per- fectly justifiable if there was no third party— the consumers—who have rights that are to be Tespected. It appears, by an explanation vol. unieered by a coal operator, that if prices are not maintained in the sammer the miners cannot have good wages im the winter; and hence they strike Syery summer in order that prices may sustiined. It ma: r strange te the coal men, but to {Mls theses sumers decidedty object. And they object also to the tariff which gives the coal operators ot Pennsylvania the power to make such means of advancing and maintaining prices partially successful in defiance of all efforts on part of consumers. The exposure of the schemes of the coal men is a strong arcument mm tayor of free trade in coal.—N. ¥. Times. Mrs Postmaster General Cresswell accompanied the party to this point, but left them here and proceeded to Balumore. ANNAPOLIS, MD., May 25, 1569, 1 ~ m.—The Presidential party arfived at Anvapolis at 11:30, amd Were met at the depot by Admiral Porter. The party then entered two carriages and were taken to the Academy grounds, and were received at the main entrance by the Marines, under command of Uapt. Tilton. At the same time a national salut? of twenty-one guns was fired in honor of the President from the frigate Santee. in the first carriage was President Grant, Mrs. Grant, Secretary Borie, and George H. Stuari,of Puiladelpuia. Tne other carriage contained Admiral Porter, Com- modore jAlden, Thomas Baiche, and John Trott, of Philedelphia. The party alighted in front of Admiral Por- ters quarters, where the President received the officers of the Academy, the Board of Visi- tors, and others. The President was dressed im a plain bleck suit, which contrasted markedly with the brilliant uniforms of the officers surrounding bim. ‘Ihe beautiful grounds were filled with Indies, and among them were Mrs. Admiral Porter and her ‘daughters, and Mrs. Jessie Fremont, wife of Gen. After the reception, President Grant review- ed the four classes of midshipmen, and ex- pressed great gratification at their precision of drill and handsome appearance. The quiet sleepy burgh of Annapolis, which according to popular belief, is fenced tn to keep the city cows from straying away from th- grassy streets into less tayored pastures, ix just now wide-awake, and indeed almost lively with the bustle of Examination week The Board of Visitors appointed to witness the *XATALBALION Of the several classes in the Naval Academy assembled here on Thursday iast aud have veen closelyoccupied every day since. Th Board of Visitors selected this year by the Sec- retary of the Navy consists of the following mamed gentlemen:—Rear Admiral Hiram Paulding, president; Commodore J. K. Golds- borough, Captain F. G. Parrott, Sargeon Wm. Maxwell Wood, Hon. J. R. Hewley, Wm. J. Albert, Esq, of Baliimore, Hon. W. H. Wads- worth, Dr. E. D. Kittoe, Gcorge H. Staars Esq., Judge Humphreys and Mr. E. B. Jud- son. ‘The examination exercises occupy nine days, and will be concluaed on the 2d of June, when the graduating class will prepare for sea, to report in Boston on July 1, from theace totake a cruise of one year in the steam frizate Sabine, after which they return for a final examination to be passed to the grade of ensign. The Sec. ond, Third and Fourth class will be sent out on the frigates Macedonian and Savarnan aud the sloop of war Dale for a four months cruise for practice in practical seamanship. The object aimed at in the training of the Naval Academy is not to send forth gradaates of high scientific attainments, or proficients in particular branches of learning, bat to prepire the pupils for the practical duties of a sea oifi- cer. The result is shown in the great profici- emcy of the youth in the department of sea- manship; the precision and skill with which she exercises of getting a ship under wey, joosing, furling and reefing sails, stripping ship, &c., &c., Were performed. The gunnery practice, and the infantry and howitzer drills are ofacharacter to maintain the high name the class of 186+ took in these departments. The graduating class for this year, heretofore given in PRE Stak, nambers 75 members, against 81 im 1868. The whole number of mid dies now here is 25°, and their bigh condition of physique and the small amount of sickaes~ among them tell well both for their training and for the healthfuiness of Aanapolis as the site for the Naval School. The classes are now through with exam- imation im gunnery and seamanship, and, except practical exercises, the third and fourth classes have finished examinations; the second class is nearly through, and the first class will finish by Jane2. The closing parade will be made and dipiomas given on the 4th of Ja when President Grant will be present. The whole will close with a grand ball compii- mentary to Mrs. Porter, on the occasion of the retiring of Admiral Porter from the superin- tendency of the Academy.
