M. Tree dressed the wounds, which consisted of two deep gashes in the hea back of the left ear, and fearful marks of pau- ishment about the face aud head, his eyes being Literally closed. A woman in the vicinity States that she saw two colored men throw stones at the soldier, but the gashes seem to in- dicate that they were made by a billy or clab. The womnded man profusely and was siso evidently under the influence of liquor. He was taken to the military hospital. on 18th street, between L and M, about 5 o’clock and at last accounts was somewhat improwd though is still considered in a critical situation. —o——_.
