From imformation re- ceived, they arrested two notorious characters, ware bisrk known a+ Martin Maber and John who told the detectives ‘that Wilham Beil, alias Riley, alias Suey Bell, who at the time ‘Was a prisoner in the workhouse, had been with some of ibe stolen articles in his posses- sion. Accorcingly the officers were ted by Mayor Bowen to take charge of Bell, and Baving taken Bim from uhe workhouse, they obtained from him such information as to cause them to proceed Srwevenings emce toa pouse at the corner of the canal and léth street, kept by Mrs. Dobbins, where Rethas, William Brown, alias Sty and Thomas Qurran, and took to the Central Guardbouse. Subsequently it was as- certained that Joba Curran.a notorious httle pickpocket, was the one who committed the robbery, and, after much difficulty, he was ar- rested by officer Joseph Acton. A search was msde ai the house in which he resides, and although a few knives and other articles were jounc which bad been stolen from Mr. Brown's Tesiderce, they were about to leave the prem- ises when a bole in the ceiling attracted their ‘enton. These were identified as articles of plate presented to Mr. Brown by the people of the congregation of Foundry Cnurch. Two fine olankets were subsequently found.
