Daring the war he commanded the Maryland brigade in Ger. Warren's division, and was several times breveted for gallantry in the field. Mr. James H. Clements, nominated tor Post- master at Portemouth, Va, isa native of this city, son of Mr. John T. Clements, and has resided at Portsmouth, Va., for several years, working at his trade of m: jist in the Gos- port Navy Yard. He worked in our Nevy Yard during the early pact of the war, acd when our forces took possession of Norfelk and vicinity, he returned there. Mr. D. B. Parker, nomimated for United States Marshal of Virginia, was during the latter part of the war an sgent of the Post Office Department, and an assistant to Col, Markiard to reestablish the postal service in he South, and bad for a long time the super- mtendence of the mails to and from the Army of the Potomac. At the close ot the war he was appointed special agent of the Post Office De. pariment for the State of Virginia, which State be now claims as his home.
