The premium on gold at first accredited is for their benefit, but to continue that premium & moment jonger than is pecessary is & fraud upon the rest ef the country. To say that the legal-tender notes cannot be redeemed until several hundred more millions of bonds are brought in, when they are not due for fourteen years, is to fly in the face of coramon sense and insult the intelligence of the people Frem the very hour that the Gevernment commences the policy which ws urged for the protection of that class who are already so well protected, the currency will begin to sink, and the very foundations of the national credit ‘Will topple. Such a depreciated currency as would then ensue would eventually carry down abe boads in its close embrace. Mr. M. elabor- ated at length om these varions points.
