Hacerstown, December % 1868.—Dear ‘Star-—I continue my report of the proceedings of the Maryland and District of Columbia Sunday School Convention. After the elec- tion of officers at the morning session, as stated im my last letter, the Rey. Griffith Owen, State | Agent, submitted bis report of the operations the Association for the past great progress im the Si Many new outposts, far advance, were es- d large numbers of little captives brought within the folds of the Associttion. The report shews the namber of Sabbath ools in Maryland to be 1,45,and in the District of Columbia, 104, comprising 22.5 nd teachers, and 149,000 scholars, with idren in the District destitute of re. nstruction. A letter was received from A. K. Browne, President ot the Washingtou Sunday Sch ol Union, regretting his inability to be present, on account of a sad afliction in his tamuy, aud | Submitting a report of the condition of the as- sociation under his supervision. He reports the number of schools belongin fo this Union at 43; teashera, 930; scholars, 7,455; Bible class- intent c¢ asses, 46: conversions, 215; with 1,417 members of churches be- the schools. He gives the number | of Volumes im the libraries as 1-792, and an in- little more zeal, more bear 4 Christ 1s wanted. A protracted discussion sprang up upoa the adoption of this report, owiug to the di-crep- cy in the figures given by Mr Browne and those of the State agent. Finally it was wtis- factorily explained that the State agent's report td ail of the schools of the Disirict, while Mr. B.'s data was only of the schools connected with what is knowm as the Wash- ington Sunday School Union, which does not fyen embrace all the schools in the city proper. The report was then adopted, and ordered to be entered upon the minutes. Verbal reports of Sunday Schoo! operations were then called for from the delegates, and five minutes’ time allowed each delegate to make his report. Harkness, of the McKendree Ohapel Sunday Sehool of Washington, said the school he represented was in a gratifying condition spiritually, and that they were passing through an extraordinary revival of eight weeks’ dura- tion. The children of the school had taken & deep interest in the revival, and as an illus- tration ot what they were doing he said a little boy of fourteen years presented himself at the altar, and the next night made his appearance there with his motber, and the anxiety of the child for the spiritual welfare of his parent excited the sympathies of all present. After several nights she arose from the altar with exclamations of joy for the grace God had given her. The next exclamation was for her m. and rushing to each other's arms, the scene enacted brought tears of joy to the eyes of sil. By the following Sunday the little fellow had urged upon his father to read the Bible, and the boy expressed that it was the brightest Sunday ever spent at his home. The infant numbered 50, with Rey. Darbin Pratt at while the library consisted of 670 s,allnew. Twelve of the scholars had been converted and joined the church, and at the next meeting there would be two more, Mr. Goddard, of the Dunbartop Street Charch, Georgetown, said Ged was prosper- ing tbeir labors, and tobim belonged the praise. ‘Tue spiritual interest of the school was greatly improved, and last Sabbath six scholars were cor verted, and 16 are now seeking a religious convertion. Mr. Malcom. of the Calvary Baptist, re- ported bis school ss having receded some in Bumbers, owing to the misfortune that bad befallen them by the destruction of their chureh edifice by fire.
