Tux Vetocity or CANNON BALLS.—An in- genious contrivance has recently been invent- ed for testing the velocity of canzon talls. Two wire targets are placed. one about twenty yards from the cannon, and the second about the same distance further on. These are connected fine insulated wires with an electrical instra- ment whieh is about four hundved yarde in the Tear of the cannon. The mstrument is adjusted on a plan similar toan electro-balistic macbine. When the ehot is fired it cuts the wire in the first target, ana then in like manner cuts the wire in the second target, the instant each wire is served being recorded by the instrument. The interval of time oceupied by the ball in passing from one target to the other fornishes the data fer obtaiming the initial velocity of the shot.
