After the trans- Action of the regular order of business a rataer rely debate sprang up on a motion of Mr. Barnes to amend the constitution so as to in- crease the imitianior. fee from twenty-five cents to five-dollars. Paper | 1 | empanelled the following jury:— GEORGETOWN. Affairs im Georgetown. SUFrossp Hom: ‘This morning, about half-past five o'clock, Patrick Fitegeraid, watchman at the canst docks of :he Camber. land Qoaland Iron Uompany, wos found in an ivsensible condition on the dock, near the steps leading to the Company's oifice, and re- moved to @ room adjoining the coal track, where he died in the course ofan hour. There ‘were no marks of violence on the body excep? a bruised and bloody place on the rigut side of the head. It appears that Iast night between the hours of seven and eleven o'clock a fight occurred be- tween a colored boatman and a young man named Jake Trimbie, also employed on 3 boat. Trimble took exceptions to some words used by the colored man in regard to Hanna Fitz- simmons, a female character well known to the police, who was on the dock atthe time, and Fitzgerald, (the deceased,) iuteriered to quiet the parties, and took from one of them a billy,as he said, to deliver to the police this morning. Both the coiered man and Trimbie appear to Dave retired at a face hour, and this morning about 5 o'clock, L«iward Patterson, employed by the Cumberland company, on coming to werk, found the deceased lying | insensible on the car track, and removed nim to a room near by where he shortly afterward: died. Information was given to the police this moreing, about 8 o'clock, and Trimble was: | arrested, charged with the killing or comphcity iu the same. Coroner Potter was sent tor and W. H. Calhoun, J. B. Merritt, M) A us Grimes, John L. Love. James Bate- .F Offutt. John Norris, Charles Friz- eorge W. Holt, and Andrew Blackma Edward Patterson testified that he came to the coal company's office this morning, about half past five o'clock; saw no light there and thought something was wrong; saw & min ying on the track, whom he recognized to be F aited iim, shook him, and got uv answer, aud then removed him toaroom un- -t the coal company’s oifice: then he was alive bet uncovsious; Witness afterwards Went tothe stable and (ben to his breakiasi, and on bis return Fitzgerald was dead. Saw a boy named Jake Trimble at the time on a boat nereby and his breast was covered with blood. Goerrish Stilt testified that jlast evening abont 7 o'clock there was a diffictity on the wharf, between Jake Trimble and # colored boy, and deceased was trying to separate them. Trimble hit the colored boy with a billy, and witness then took the billy away and gave it toa black man, who gave it todeceased. Witness then reured, and heard no more noise. Mory C. Hine testified that Jacob Trimble acted very suspiciously last night on the boat, and beard him say he would just as leave die that night as any other ume; he came into the cabin of the boat, where she was, and had blood on his shirt; he got a knife there and went out, but afterwards brought it and then he went to bed. He was nervous this morning, and ate very little breakfast. The prisoner, Jake Trimble, was here ques- tioned, and said he did not strike deceased at all: they were friends, and he got the billy to strike a negro with, and for the same purpose procured the knife. Dr. Ritchie bere testified to having examined the wounds of deceased, and having found the skull badiy fractured. The wound was such as could be made by a billy, though it might have been caused bya fall. The jawot de- ceaced was apparently fractured without any external bruise. Other witnesses were here examined, who corroborated the facts as above stated, and deliberation “the deceased came to bis ath from causes unknown to Lue jury.” ‘Trimble was then held, with others, charged with disorderly conduct last night, and ibe cxuse set for a hearing this afternoon, The deceased was abouty forty years old. andemployed by the Cumberland Coal Com- pany for about two years, and was aman of excellent ebaracter. “Strange to say, about a year ago. and in the same spot where he was found insensible, a child of bis met with an ac- cident, being run over by acoal car, fracture ing both legsso badly that amputation was necessary.
