Mor- Thy Joseph Peters, Jotin Rooney, James Stan- ton, Thomas Selvag, Robert Hays, Albert Her- gensheimer, George Kenny, all of Baltimore, Were charged with resaulé aud battery and conspiracy in Phundelpaia on Thursdiy last, and had a hearing before Alderman Birder, at the Central Station in that city. Mr. Jacob H. Richardson, of Washington, D. ©., clerk in the Snpreme Court of the United States, testified that be came from Washington at balf-pust five, and reaching here about eleven o'clock, saw Hudgings and Selvag in the cars this side ot Baltimore; the first named sang the “Palmetto Firz” song, and the party gave three cheers for Seymour and Blair; witness, with others, gave three cheers tor Grant and Coltax; Hudgings struck witness with aclub. Mr. George D. Johnson, of Washington, D. C ‘Withrosed the occurrence, and identified Hudg- ings, Selvag, Rooney and Peters in the disturb- ance. Mr. James T. Wormley, ot Washington, ‘was in the cars, and identified Hudgings, Roo: hey, and Selyag. There were some eight or nine in the party, and they were very disor- derly. William G. Crawford, of Washington, identified Peters and Selvag, and was of the opinion that Hudgings was of the party. Uf. ficer Kenny testified to arresting Norris and Rooney, and searching Stanton, and find. ing a joaded pistol on his person. Chief Lamone testified to ordering the arrest of the accused. He had received instractions from Baltimore to the effect that there wore certain parties coming here to be assessed, and interfere in our election; on Wednesday night be received a telegram from Baltimore that over one hundred Baltimoreans had started to this city for the purpose of being assessed and for voting purposes; he had some men therv, and when the fact of the beating of Mr. Kich- ardson was made known to him, he ordered the arrest of the accused; the parties were de- seribed to him. Hudgings, Rooney, Peters, and Salyag were held te answer the charge of assault apd bat- tery, and tue other partes were held for a tur- ther hearing on Monday next, to answer the charge of conspiracy to illegally vote at the commg election.
