Mr. Young was shot in the head with a shot-gun, the Whole side of bis face bemg torn off. Young was shot throngh the head with a pistol: her clothing was set on fire, her body was pertially burned. At Dunkirk and Rochester, New York, reductions of 25 and 30 per cent., respectively, have just been made, and a similar system will be pur- sued along the whote northern frontier. The reductions will be completed in two months. Gry. Rossmav has been assigned to duty according to his brevet rank of Major General from the date of his assuming command of his Department. Gen. He is Convicted of the Murder of D'Arcy McGee. Orrowa, Canapa, Sept. 14.-The Whal case was resumed this morning at nine o'clock. The court room was de.sely crowded. Sir John A. McDonald accepted a seat the bench, Hon. Jobu Hillard Cameron, counsel for the defense, begun bis argument by alluding to a tirong preindice existing against the prisoner. He said the evidence in the case consisted of three kinds, viz: circumstantial, direct, and the admissions of the prisoner. He pointed out the danger of reliance on the first, and ted numerous examples. He considered the circumstanual evideace brought forward im the present case wholly unreliable, and showed the improbability of the direct evi« dence given by Turner and Wade.
