Primary No.3, Mrs. Atlemus, teacher, was ¢xamined by Mr. Gulick, acting in the place of Mr. Johnson, one of the trustees, who was un- able to attend. As in the ease of school No. 2. the scholars of this gave unmistakable signs of good training, to prepare themselves for higher studies. In reading, spelling, and arithmetic they merited favorable report. Their concep- on of punctuation was passable. Primary, No.3, Miss Awkward, teacher, was subjected toa close examination of over four hours duration under the direction of Mr. Samuel Marks, trustee. Here the progress was marked, and the scholars would haye done high credit to schools of a much higher grade. (ral Problems were solved by them without hesita- ion, while elaborate exercises in multiplication and long division were passed throngh with but few blunders. Difficult questions, embrac- ing words of simi'ar pronuneiation, but with different definition, were promptly written out im neat chirography. In reading and singing the scholars were also well up to the mark, while in discipline a bigh merit of praise is ue. At the close of the examination of Miss Awkward's school, Messrs. Marks and Gulick briefly addressed the scholars in words of en. couragement and commendat after which the school was dismissed with the granfying aunouncement that they could bave one day's holiday. ‘he average attendance of each of these schools nearly reaches one hundred. Fourth Di —Primary Schools Nos. 2, 3 and 4, of the Fourth District, were examined yesterday afternoon. The Detectives arrested him at the corner of Dana 7th streets, and he was taken before Justice Smith, who sent him to jail.
