B. Church, resigned. Thomas E. Lloyd. Esq., was called to the chair, and stated the object of the meeting. Messrs. Jonas B. Ellis, Antoine Grinder, and Dr. Charles Allen, were nomina- ted as candidates for the Board of Aldermen. Messrs. Rudoiph Bartol, George Hinton, Dr. Croggon, and Captain Stackpole, were’ ap- pointed tellers, and the vote resulted:—Ellis, 6); Allen, 55, Grinder, 11. Mr. Ellis was there- upon declared the nominee. Mr. Lioyd made a short address, urging all to registeT, a8 there was a wily and powerful enemy to encounter: bu‘ be was sure that the white people could carry the ward, and would done so last year it not been for the unfairness shown by & certam Government official.
