NING STAR. LOCAL NEWS. \ Amasements, &e., Té-Night. Ovp Fe:tows’ Hatt.—Graad celebration of 4#th anniversary of American Odd Fellow. ship. W xsixy Cxaret.corner Fifth and F str Btereoptican exhibition for the benefit of Ly school. th age Tue Muwrcre at Exectiow.—The Conserva- tives open the municipal campaign to-night, by Polding mectings im all the wards of the eity for the selection of delegates to & conven- tion fo nominate a candidate for Mayor. Thoara this is tbe first formal breaking of ground, there has been considerable diseussien and ca yassing going on in both perties as regards can- didates tor ‘he Mayoralty. Among the names that bave been mentioned on peo aaa = Wallach, the present in- gambent, Jos. H. Bradiey, John T. Given, ‘Thos. F.’Lioya, Got. James RO’ Hetrne, Owen Thorn, Jonah D. Hoover, Cornelius Wendell, and Grorge A Bohrer, Mr. Given, we believe, declines to be a can- didate on account of the engrossing nature of bis business affairs, aud we think it likely that others of the gentiemen named have not given ee consent to the use of their names. At is understood that Ar. Wallac does not hold Dimself as 2 candidate unless it should appear bat bis name will combine more strength than ‘Shy other. His friends—and he has a host of ‘Warm ones, 38 everybody knows—claim that Be is the strongest man that can be found. Tue friends of the other candidstes, of course. hold differently. An iniinential body of our citizens favor the nomination of Joseph H. Bradiey. Young America of tho coaservative persusion, and especially Young Irish America, goes for Col. O'Beirne. Thomas E. Lloyd has many ardent and active friends, and the other gentle- men named bave al! zealous partisans. Outside of politics, the name ot Mr. Augus- tus Perry bas been mentioned as one who ‘would stand fair with the business men of the eaty. Gn the Republican side a nnvaber of names have been discussed, among which are J. Bowen, Major A. C. Kichards, John L. John R. Elvans, Lawis Clephane, Z. Ric Gen. Jobn ; of these gentlemen have, however, positively disavowed any aspirations for the position. The friends of Mr. Pfau claim for him the Sec- ond and Fifth Wards to begin with, and Mr. Dixon will probably get the vote at least of the Sixth Ward, his friends in that ward thinking - he did not get quite fuir treatment la: sand Itseems to be supposed that the coutest wili be mainly between Mr. Bowen and Major Richards. ae ee Fourts Warp Rzotstratioy.—Saturday afternoon. at the close of the registration of vo- ters for the Fourth Ward, the figures stood—s2t whites and 178 colored—total, 69%; white ma- jority. H2. Total number of registered voters recorded forthe three days. 2,587: of whom 1.781 were whites, and 867 colored; making the majority of whites for the Ward 914. The first Tegistration of last year stood 2.517, of which | 1,604 were White and $13 colored—total white | ver colored G01. Increase of white majority iS year over last, 23. Among those who attempted to register and were rejected were Robert A. Williams, who bad served in the Confederate army; M. Fian- mugan, non-resident of the ward; Thomas Ma_ guire, without naturalization papers; Carter ‘Gibson, under age; Edmund Sullivan, colored, who said he bad just come into town a few ; days sgo to see some friends, and was not ac- quainied with the streets; Samuel Key, non- residence. Mr. Charles Wallach was chal- Jenged as baying left the city and engaged in the rebellion, but upon proving that he had been pardoned by the President he was allow- ed to register. M. T. Collins was rejected on account of having claimed British protection during the war. The members were shown to sats in the vody of the church, a6 also a mumber of ladies who have taken the Rebekah degree, and the galic- ries aud other portions of thee litice were filled by Isdiesand gentlemen. After the choir had ng, with fine effect, an appropriate authem, Rev. Parker H. Sweet, Secretary of the Grand Loage of the District of Columbia, was intro- duced by N. G. Carlin, of Potomac Lodge, and annovneiny his text, 2d Peter, Ist chapter and loth verse: “It is not a cupningly devised fa- bie,” &c. dehvered a fine discourse from it, taking the ground that Odd-Fellowship was not in any maaner inimical to religion, but, on the contrary, was its hand-maid. After an- other anthem by the choir, the congregation was een ts the benediction by the pas- tor (Dr. Ho: members of the Order returned to the Hall of Potomac Lodge, when N. G. Carlin took the chair and introduced Grand Repre- sentatives McLean, Stuart, and Havenner, of this jurisdiction, P. G. M. Latham, of Al-x- andria. and P. G. J. T. Parker, of New York, each of whom made appropriate remarks. Mr. Mavenner spoke of the Rebekah degree, and advised that it should be pnt into pracical operation in Alexandria as it has been in Washington, paying a tribute to the associa- tions of this city, three of whom last year ex- pended near two thousand dollars for Telivt. P.G. M. Latham, in behalf of the Alexan- drians, tendered thanks to Mr. Sweet for his *ppropriate sermon, and the visitors for their pivsenee, and about 5 o'clock the closing ode was sung, and the assemblage dispersed. This morning, at So’clock, the members of the Order in Alexandria left that place by a special train on the Alexandria, Loudon and Hampanire Railroad for Leesburg, where the Order have made arrangements for a grand celebration. Mechanics Lodge, of Georgetown, also left that place this morning for the same destination, as alsoa number from this city. The programme embraces a procession through the streets of Leesburg to the Church, (where an oration will be delivered by P. G. M.R. F. Hunt, of this city,) and s collation at the hail. The celebration in this city will take place at the hall, on 7th street, to-night, when, as stated on Saturday, there will be addresses delivered and a musical entertamment, ——o—_—_ Narrow Escarm rnom Deata ny Svrro- earioy.—On Friday night, an old gentlemaa arrived at the Kirkwood Honse, from the south . The door was forced open, and the | room found to be full of gas, the old gentleman having blown it out when he went to bed. He was found by the bed upon his knees, quite insensible.
