Mach of the change is owing to the proper organization of Iabor, and the application of machinery to aid it. In all those branches of inveniion which thon to the usefal arts, America 1s acknowledged to be ahead of all Christendom. This fact can only be appreciated by a visit to the great manufacturing centres. In cities like ‘Washington, we can only see some of the sults. Very few of our readers, probatuy, realize how much of the work necessary in the construction of their homes, which only a few years since was doue by hand, is now vwurned out by machinery at much less cost. To all those who design building, or who take an in- terest in this subject, we recommend a to the builders’ depot of H. W. Hamiltou & Co. 562 7th street, in this city, wheve they can be convinced of the great progress je im this direction, and also of the growth of our city, which requires such a stock of building materials to be kept on hand to supply a part of the demand.
