He would therefore nominate Mr. Sayles J. Bowen, [applause,] and a few such men would represeut the District beter than a large delegation. Col. Bramhall seconded the Romination. Colonel Keller remarked that the delegates should be elected from the ward, and he was opposed to going outside of it—there were good men here. The chair declared the nomination of Mr. Bowen out of order. Mr J. H. Piper (colored) said that he could not see the wecessity of sending more delegates to Chi- and those already elected in other wards couid represent them especially, as the Dis- trict had no vote. Dr. Purvis (colored) re- marked that the First Ward had refused to en- tertain the proposition. What was wanted was the election of men whose influence wonld be felt. There were but few representative men in the party here, and Mr. Bowen Was one who would reflect credit on any propl: sending him. Most of the delegates will have to go at their own expense. Ifa delegauon is sent as large as those from the States they will Probably mot be admitied. Mr. Bowen will ve a vote there, and would be there as a member of the Executive Committee. Lieutenant Skippon went immediately to the house, and found them m a critical condition. Dr, Magruder was summoned and prescribed an antidote, which the man took, and has since recovered. The woman refused to take anything to relieve her suffering, and still lies in a critical condition. The doctor has no hopes of her recovery. Her affidavit was taken by Justice Morsell, in which she admits administering the porson and taking it herself to prevent disgrace, as she said, having been deceived by the man Glasgow, upon his promise to marry her, It is reported that Glasgow 1s married man already. She says she procured a poisonous Prescription under the pretence thatehe want- ed it to kill rats, which prescription she had put upatadrug store. Cherk & Mudd, hucksters of Washington, was upset off Giesboro’. The brothers Travis, however, cluvg to her, after remaiming in the water an hour or more, she was blown ashore at Marbury’s Point, and the only loss caused by the accident was that of the fish.
