Mr. Arrigon tayored the proposition to send delegates, so that they might give an expres- sion of the sentiments of the District there. Afier some further discussion an amendment submitted by Mr 4. H. Atkinson, coloredy was adopted; requesting the Repablican Cen} tral Committee to call a convention to elect del: egates to represent the District im the Chica;o Cenvention. The subject of sending delegates tothe Eman- <dpation Convention to be held in Georgetowd, ‘was again called up, when it was contended ty Mr. Marshall, whose views were endorsed by others, that the club could not legislate tor the people, but must resolve itself into a mass meeting, as this was @ pohtical organiza- tion, ‘The Chair was unwilling to decide himself, butsaid the matter was in the hands of the club, and they could do es they pleased. Without any action thereon, Mr. A. P. Clark introduced @ series of resolutions endorsing Edwin M. Stanton, expressing satisfaction with the result of the New Hampshire election, fa- voring Gen. Grant for the Presidency. and en- dorsing the Sumuer charter bill: which were unanimously adopted. The Georgetown Emancipation Conveation was again taken up, when, on motion of Mr. E. H. Atkinson, the club resolved itself into © citizens’ mass meeting. Addresses were made in favor of a full representation, by delegates, to the Convention, when it was Suggested that another mass meeting of the Republicans was then in session in the ward, and it would be in- expedient to make any appointments of dele- gales until the action of the meeting alluded to was made known. Two sets of delegates would be in conflict; and as the call of the meeting of which this is a report was for a gathering of the Republican club, it was rea- sonable that other citizens should suppose the emancipation question would not be broached but that its deliberations would be upon poll cal and local matters. The emancipation ques tion, therefore, more properly belonged to the other meeting. The matter was discussed at length, but before coming to any action, a mo- tion for adjournment prevailed ieee Te Case oF Samver Strox tion from Gen.
