Ovp Fetrows’ Hatr.—Blind Tom. night but two. —s— Storey Sworp—ir ts Recovergn.— on jurday afternoon, detectives Clarvoe and Bigley recovered the gold-hilted sword which was stolen from one of the cases of the Patent Office on Monday afternoon or evening last, and placed it in the hands ef Superintendent Richards. The information of the robbery was given to the police on Tues- day, snd the case was assigned to detectives Claryoe and Bigley, who at once entered on the work, and the case being one which, ifsuc- eesstully worked, would be a cap to the su cesstul party, other detectives entered om the work, including some of the secret service men of the Treasury Department. It_was first Stated that the sword was taken en Monday night, but from facts ascertained by the detectives it is clear that it was taken in the afternoon of that d2y. These facts are as follows :—On Monday night a mysterious per- sen went toamerchant of this city aad offer the stolen property as collateral for a loan, which was refused, apd be banded the me ebant a leifer purporting to be from Gen, Grant to Mr. Stanton, asking an appointmentin the War Department. He also said if the merchant would oblige him with the loan of a hundred dollars he would give as security a sword which had been presented to his grandfather by the Duke of Cambridge, and the merchant finally agreed, and the party went off and re- turned with the sword, saying that he would not bring the scabbard, as it was too valuable. Important changes were made in the constitution, by which the president, five vice presidents, the corresponding and workir g secretaries, the treasmrer, librarian, register, and the Chairmen of the Standing Committees are constituied a board of managers. To this board is entrusted the supervision of all the affairs of the society, except the election of offi- cers and new members. and action on amend- ments to the constitution. The association may, at any time, convey its views, by resolution, om any subject: but such action except in the case specified, is to be regarded as recommendatory. DeatH oF B.Ocie Taytor.—We regret to Announce the death of an old and esteemed citi- zen, Benjamin Ogle T Rome, Italy, on the 25th of Febraary last. ‘Tayloe wos the eldest surviving son of the Colonel Jobn Taylor, of Mount Airy. Virgix and Washington city, and was born at Annap- 76, in’ the house of his maternal grandfather, Governor Ogle, of Maryland. He ed his preliminary acudemical education Phillips’ Exeter Acidemy. and was gradu- ed at Harvard University in I-14. In 1417 he visited Europe as an aftecie of the American Ambassador to the Court of St. James, the Hon. Richard Rush. In 4 Mr. Tayloe married Miss Julia Dickinson, of Troy, N. ¥., the daughter of Hon. John M. Dickinson, of that city, and for many years the Representative of the Renneselaer District in_ the Cougress of the United States. In 1846 Mr. Tayloe lost his wife, and after several years married Miss Phirbe Warren, of Troy, N. Y., a lady of great beanty On the breaking outof the war he owned a lar, ‘amount of rea} and personal estate in the Sou ates, and his losses were enormous. In secompanied by his wife and son, he sailed for Europe, where he remained until his death.
