We are glad to be able now to state thatthe Mayor, ip view of the urgent necessities of the teach: ers, bas very properly decided to anticipate the action of the Councils, and has arranged for the payment of the arrearages of salary to the teachers. This morning, consequently, the teachers are being paid, and relief is thus afforded to a large and meritorious class and to those dependent upon them. It is to be heped that the Councils will promptly pass the schoo! bill, and thus enable the Mayor to pay the salaries of the teachers regularly here- after.
