Leary as a candidate tor judge | of the supreme bench, in the place of Hon. Hugh L. Bond, now the Republican candi- | date forGovernor. Mr. Leary formerly repre- | sented the second Congressional district in the | House of Representatives; was several times | member of the State Legislature; is now city solicitor, and has filled other positions of honor and trust. Letters were received from the candidates formerly chozen accepting the nominations. Govensaant INTEREST IN SOUTHERN RAtt- BoADS.—The Congressional Committee to in. quire into the disposition of the Governmen; interest in southern railroads left here to-day for the South. They co first to Richmond to take testimony, and thence toCharleston. Mr. McUlurg, of Missouri, is chairman, and the committee is accompanied by the sergeant-at- arms of the House, who goes to summon wit- messes. The committee expect to remain in Charleston about a week, and to proceed thence to other southern cities. GOVERNMENT DIRECTORS OF THE PAcIFI‘ RAILROAD APPOINTED.—The President yes- terday sppointed Hon. James Brooks, of New York, end Samuel McKee, of Kentucay, (tov- ernment Directors of the Union Pacific Rail- road. These appointments make the five on the part of the Government, the other three being George Ashmun, of Massachusetts, Johu S. Rallings, of Missouri, and Jesse L. Wil- liams, of Indiana. Gey. KILPATRICK’S RESIGNATION.—Gen Kilpatrick, our minister to Chili, has again | tendered the resignation of the captaincy he holds in the regniar army. He says in nis let- ter that this has beem done twice betore, and the government has taken no netice of his ac- tion. He expresses an earnest desire that it may be accepted out of justice to the junior officers who are retarded in their promotion by | the fact that his name is still kepton the rolls; And it now understood that it will be accepted. 7 lt has been incorrectly reported that James Russell Young has resigned his posi- tion as managing editor of the New York Tridune. The report seems to have originated from the fact that two of the Tritune staif, Blessrs. The Locdon quotations of Five-twenty bonds, under the practice of the Stock Ex- ebange, will be telegraphed over the cable hereafier ex-dividend, thongh the gold interest isnot able until November. The Indian Peace Council. Mupreinm LopGRCREBK. Oct 14 —The Peace Commissioners have arrived. Five thousand Indians have assembled,including Cheyennes, Arapaboes, Kiowas, Camanches, Apaches, and Dog Soldiers. The Indians talk well but in- sist upon arms and ammunition. ‘The Cheyennes are afraid to come within 10 miles of the camp for fear of the soldiers. We have three companies of soldiers and two Col- ton guns. ‘The Counc: will continue eight days, and the prospects for peace so far are good. A Drover Drusged jd Robbed — Indian Depredations. St. Louis. Oct. 17.-Charles L. Raymond. a Grover, of Clayton, illinois, was drueged and robbed of $3,000 and several valuable papers, in the suburbs of the city, yesterday afternoon. A setter from Lewsburg Wells, Mexico dated September 25, says the Comanche Indian attacked and killed quite a large number of Navayjoes, in Bosquedendo Reservation. The Comanches claim the reservation as their gropnd, and regard the Navajoes as tres- passers. Grant fer the Presidemcy—More Meetings in Philadelphia. [Special Dispatch to the Star.
