FINANCIAL. There bas been a perceptible decrease in the general trade of New York forthe past week. and im some directions the markets have been verging on comparatiye dullness. This has been brought about By the stringency in the money market, and the unsettled state of finan. cial affairs, ‘Yolume of business, however in Augustand September was quite large, and ‘the aggregate for the first quarter of the fiscal year has been generally satusfactoty. There is still considerable Southern trade to come forward, delayed by the prevalence of the yel- low fever at the Gulf ports. Many merchants will be buying or ordering for the second time, ‘and 8 moderate trade will be transacted far into the year. The crops of the North and West have been very good, if we except corn and potatoes in many localities, and the cot- ton crop of the South and South west now bids fair to range from two and a halt to three mil- lions of bales. The general business thus far in the ceacon bas certainly been an improve. ment upon that of last spring. when heavy losses were sustained. —_e«—_—_ Government Securities.
