FoR THE ACCOMMODATION OF PERSONS leav- ing the city during the summer months they can have the STAR mailed to their address, by ordering the same at the office, for 124 cents | pet week, for one week or more. THE TAX BILL IMBROGLIO, Despite the undignified slang levied at the Ak by one of the Aldermen of the Fourth Ward, (Mr. Moore,) the facts remain uadispu- | table as stated by us, to wit: Ist. That the rate | of commission allowed to the Collector up to the time that the Republican Collector came in Wagtwo per cent, the act of Vouncils pre- vious passed only reducing the commission at theend of the term of the then Uollector, 2d. That the report of the Committee of Confer- | ence fixed the rate of compensation at 1% per cent, OF one-half-per-cent. less commission than was paid the previous Colleetor,a report agreed upon by every member but on2 of the Committee, (Mr. Moore,) and to which he was understood to assent in the Committee meeting. ifthe Alderman from the Fourth Ward is sin. cerely anxiousto save to the Corporation the sum of $2,400, concerning which he is delay- ing the passage of the tax-bill, he can readiiy do it by sparing the city the heavy tax of print. ing bis interminable speeches and reports that he is so solicitous always to “spread upon the journal.” A good arithmetician at our elbow suggest (bat if that gentleman would even “compromise” by omitting the and “quy’s" in his matier, printed at the Uorpori tion expense, the amount of $2,400 could read- tly be saved. THE INDIAN WAR—PROSPECT OF PEACE. Hon. N. G. Taylor, Commissioner of Indian Affairs, under date of September 23d, tele- graphs from Omaba to ©. E. The Apsches, Arapahoes, Kio- ways, Comanches, and friendly Uneyenn sre willing, if the other Gheyennes will not make peace, to subjagate them, if the Govern. ment will furpich theammunition. So Saper- intendent Murphy informs me.” HEALTH OF HON.
