Ore of those annoying, yet Indicrous acci- sents, which will happen in the best of fami- lies, occurred on Sunday, not over a thousand wiles from this city. A dry goods clerk had an engagement to take Bis lady love out buggy ziding. Early in the morning he appeared be- fore her father’s door with one of thoee spider- like vehicles which are probably constructed ‘with a view of ascertaining how light 2 buggy can be made, and at the same time be service- able. ‘The lady is sweet sixteen, beantifal, and just a little bit of what is termed « fast.” she is full of life, fun, and frolic, and is decidedly en bonprint, Welgbing xbout one hundred ard torty-five pounds. As the young gentleman drove up Dis lady love was standing on the top step atthe front door with her venerable Jather, who had his gold specks elevated on bis forehead in order to get a distant view of bis future son-in-law. Adonis jumped outof the baggy preparatory to assisting the young lady in, bat she sud- cenly 100i one of thoze strange freaks to which the dear sex are all subject. The buggy was Standing about four feet from the steps, and considerably below the step upon which stood the young lady. She probably wanted to con. ¥ince her Jover that she was not clumsy if she cwas fat, and thought this would bea good time to stow her agility. Be thatas it may, she gave a jump and landed im the centre of the buggy. If she had stopped there, all would haye been well, but alas’ the thin boards of tne bo'tom of the buggy. unabie to stand the pres- sure, gave way, and the young !ady continued ber escent. There was a piercing scream; a plunging horse with a young man holding to him; a bundle of musiin in the buggy, and two little Baiter boots pointing to within six inches of the ground under it. the Tescue aud detached the horse from the buggy. He then got up on one tide, young mau on the other, and they attempted to raise young lady np. +O, stp, STOP! you are Killing me.” she cried. The boards had broken in the center, and the long sharp <plinters extended downwards, and when they attempted to raise the young lady out of her predicament these sharps splinters would cateh in her ie—pshaw! Did you ever see a wire mouse trap? if not, go and get one, stick your finger through the entrance tunnel and try to pull it out. You will tben understand the sad tix taatour young Jady was in on Sunday morning. ‘The old man comprehended the situation in & moment. He told young man to cet down znd break the splinters off. Young lady Fereamed “O, don’t," and young man woulan't. At this stage of the proceeding a practical neighbor came up with a hatchet, and the yeung lady was soon extricated from her un- pleasant sion, and disappeared behind the frout coor. ‘e con't know whether the young lady sus- tained any serious injury or not, and we are not going to ask any questions of that young man.—Leureri lle Strange Story of Clergyman.—Four Wives Living—Am Astounding Career ef Rascality. ‘The cocd people of Middlefield and adjacent yicimity in Connecticut, are quite scandalized at Whe exposure of a man by the name of (;reen ‘who had been preaching there asa Methodist, aud a: Berlin ss a Congregationalis: previou. lv.
