THE EVENING STAR. Geergetewn Councils. B@aRp OF ALDBRMEN.—At the meeting lest evening, all the members were present. A message from the Mayor, relative stalls in the market-bouse, was received and referred to the Recorder. Resolution to pay claims of Jos. A. Essex and G. B, Barnard; referred back to the lower Board. Resolution author- izing the renting of the stands at the market- house; passed. Resolution to lay flag foot- ‘ways across Dunbarton, Beall, Montgomery, ‘a Bridge streets; passed. Tne ordinance to tax circus and theatrical companies for the benefit of the public schools, was adopted. The standing committee, to whom was referred an ordinance relative to gal walls and fences, reported the bill back with amendments; passed. A bill relative to the improvement of 2th street having been returned, Mr. Thomas proposed that a committee of conference be Sppctaied. 1t was so ordered, and Mr. Hyde appointed as the committee on the part of this ard. An ordinance relative to providing for water improvement Was referred to a standing committee. A resolation to pay P. ca 2 Mollison $86.37, for the repairs of lamps; also, $46.75 to the Evening Union, tor advertising, ‘were passed. Resolution for the relief of Olifford and Robert Morris, remitting fines; referred. Resolution from the Board of Com- mon Couneil, providing that when the Boards adjourn it be to meet on the 11th proximo, was «concurred in. An ordinance for the improve- ‘ment of 7th street having been reported back with amendments, by the committee of con- terence, was adepted as amended. Adjourned to July 11th. Common Councit.—The following petitions ‘were presented and referred to tne appropri- ate committees: By Mr. Shoemaker—From sundry citizens residing on Prospect street, complaining of the bad drainage, and praying the removalof the nuisance. By Mr. Darby— ‘The petition of Robert Morris, asking that a —_ fe aapoeed for selling books withouta Hoense tte By Mr. Davis—A similar one Eas E.T. Olifford. Mr. Clabaugh, from com- Anittee on elaims, reported, in favor of paying the bills of P. J. Collison and the Constitutional Union Mr. Shoemaker, from the committee on streets, reported in favor of the Board of Al- @ermen’s substitute for the bill relatingto ex- ‘cavations of streets, and reeommended its pas- gage. Mr. Pickerell, from the committee on ‘ways and means, reported an ordinance forthe better distribution and supply of water; and Mr. P. asked to be discharged from the further consideration ot the petition for pumps. Mr. Davis, from the committee on market house, reported favorably on the petition for enlarg- ing its limits. Mr. Radcliff, frem the com- mittee on fire engines, asked to be dis- charged from the farther consideration of the fire alarm telegraph, and 1t was soordered. Bill for erection of end water engine at the Aqueduct Bridge; {The bill appro- ‘priates $10,000 for at bes purpose. .) Bill tor im- provement of 7th street was concurredin.
