Reise an Dgorrk oy Divorce.—Jnudge Olin, in the “equity Court, bas madea decree divorcing ‘Charles Mades from the bonds of matrimony with Felixina Mades, The petition in this case sets forth that the petitioner did not become acquainted with the respondent until Jaquar: let, 1°66; that they firet met in Alexandria, that tome; were married on the 4th of March tollowing, by Rev. S. D. Finckel; that the re- spondent gave birth toa fall grown child on the 27th day of June following, three months and twenty-three days after marriage, and only five months after the first acquaintance; that the child was not the truit of any illicit intercourse.om the part of the petitioner; that Ube respondent frandulently concealed her sit- uation from: the petitioner. Judge Olin in this ease filed a written opin ion, in which, after reciting the facts, he sa: “Relief is not songht in this case under the act of Congress applicable to divorces in this Dis- trict. It is asked for under the general powers of a court ef chancery to annuia contract upon the ground of fraud. The contract of mar- Tiage, though & civil contract, is of so great solemnity and imporéance that courts ofequity have seidom set it aside on the ground of fraud. After a somewhat careful examination of adjudged cases, 1 cannot doubt but that this court has the power, independent of the act of Congress, to annul and eet aside the marriage contract, when obtained by fraud. But the fraud must not be of a slight or trivial charac- ter which will warrant tilis court to annul it. in this case the fraud fs of sach a character as every right man would revolt from with de- testation and abhorrenee; and 1 have no hesitancy in decreeing that the marriage eon- tract in this case be ammaulled and set aside.” The decree closes: It is decreed that the marrisge hereiofore set up and pretended by the respondent with the petitioner, was pro- sores by. ber in fraud, and was contracted by and made by and under the fraudulent con- trivance of the Yespondent, and the Court ‘doth adjudge and decree that the said mar- Tiage be and the same is hereby annulled and set aside. and declared null and void.” The testimony was taken before Commis- sioner J, J. Johnson, when the witnesses were examined, one of whom testified to going ‘with the respondent to Perryville, Ohio, where the child, which lived five weeks, was born; ‘another to the birth ot the child at that place, end the admissions of the respondent, that the petitioner was not the father of it, andthe third to the time and circumstances of the pettioner’s acquaintance witn the respondent. Joseph H. Bradley, Jr., Esq., appeared for ‘the petitioner. There was no appearance for ‘the respondent. ee GoInG TO AQUIA CRERK TO MEND A WATER Pipe —it is s.id that several married gentie- men who wert ona ‘Moonlight Excursion” the other p.gbt to Aquia Creek, are in trouble with their better halves, mm consequence of having put forward bozus business e: cies as necuaitatal their abcence x on that night. An esteemed ci fzen, (0 Carries on plumbing and gas-fitting, represented to his cera sposa that the bursting of a water- P'pe in one of the Department buildings would make it necessary for him to be absent ali Dight. She guilelessly believed the tale, and ‘wept on her single pillow over the hardships of the plumbing business, that tore the fond busband trom his household gods at the dead hour ef night; and when the breakiast hour came. and no husband, she thought the break an that water-pipe must have been an exten- sive one, and when his plice was vacant at the dinner taple, she yet had faith, and be- lieved that the pipe had burst again: but when he made his appearance very late in the even- ing, with a sunburnt face, a smashed up hat, and the marks of greem grass on the seat of his linen pants, she shrewdly put that and thst together, and come to the conclus‘on that he had been to the prize figpt. As he had heen a good boy preyiously. h@ was forgiven for “just once.” Alderman MeMullin. of Philadeiphia, re- geree at the «« milf,” who 80 earnestly requested the members of the press not to mention his presence, must be excessively disgusted to find dis name, coupled with his civic title, figuring an the prize-fight report of every paper in the country. A Baltimore councilman, who got leave of absence from his spouse, (a lady of much force of cbaracter,) on pretence of having te come to Washington to see some Coast Survey plans the improvement of the Baltimore basin, and whose name unfortunately got into the papers, has not yet dared to return to his do- mestic circle, itis said, but 1s waiting in Wash- ington util a pardon can be negotiatad. Several delinquent husbands haye man- “aged te cover their tracks thus far; but the suspicions of some of them have been aroused by mutterings of their liege lords in their dreams about ‘first knock-down,” «first blood,” “ ten to five on Collyer.” ‘a stingeron the snoot,” “manleys,” rs,” +‘ fouls,” sand “rib-crackers ” Husbands when they go to prize fights had better have a fair preliminary understanding with the wives of their bosoms. —_e—_—_. Mrs. Hudspeth took the letter to General Scott, and it was forwarded, through General Dix, to President Lincoin, who seemed to attach little importance to it, and threw it in his desk. It is probable that Government will bring forward this testimony to show that the assassination of Mr. Lincoin’ had long been premeditated, and was net the result of asud- den change of purpose by Booth om the very day tbat it took place. eg tt Royal ARoH MaSonny.—Last evening the epee @hbapter of Royal Arch Masons, formed i ce the District was a few weeks ago made a separate jurisdiction, was instituted in Ma- son.c Hall, under the name of Eureka Uhap- ter, No.4, R A M., and the following officers were installed: Chauncey Smith, M.
