Jacobson bas made & whitewash which is said to be al- most as durable as paint, by dissolving 50 parts of glue in 150 parts of water, and adding 2 parts of caustic so after boiling, a floceu- lent precipitate separates, which may, how- ever, be disregarded. After the mixture has cooled he adds 50 parts ot water glass. and stirs in enough oxyd of zinc to.make it of the proper consistence for painting. Two coats sbould be applied, and when dry a solation eontaining 10 per cent of chloride of zinc sbould be Inid on, which gives it a beautiful gloss and greatdarability. A UasE OF UANoER.—For some time there bas been going the rounds of the press a re- cetpt for curing cancer by the use of a plaster of chloride of zinc, blood rootand'wheatfiour, said to have been discovered by Dr. Fell. of London, some eight or ten years ago. It has been tried in this city, in the case of a child who had & cancer on her lip, and so far the success seems perfect. The tumor, abont the size and sbape ofa pecan, has come out, and the process of healing has gone on rapidly and healthily. We will take note ofthe progress of the case. and will report its final success or failure. The only point yet to be determined is whether the cure is so complete that the cancer shall not return.—Natche z Democrat. &7 The negroes now ride in the street cars of all the principal Southern cities, crders to that effect being issued by the military command- ers. In New Orleans heretofore it has been the custom for the colored people to ride in special cars marked with a “star,” and the New Orleans Crescent says the military order has produced very little change.
