Hollings- Ts, of the Washington City Tem held a temperance meeting, mt of Warden Brown, ia the jatl, 3 ners. The Warden ormed the prisoners previously of the meet i Snd gave all an epportunity te attend, and of the sixty-five prisoners about fitty accepted. The prisoners were assembled in ike hall on the second floor, about 2% o'clock, and the meeting was opened with prayer and the reading of a selection of Scripture. Mr. Hol- lingsbead presided, and briefly addressed the Prisoners, calling attention to the fact that they had ihe pledge boek present. in which were the games of over six hundred persons, some of whom had been as confirmed drunkards as could be found, but had reformed. and were bow useful members of society. Addresses of em or fifteen minutes’ length were delivered oy Messrs. John A. Goldin, Wm_ P. Drew, O. K. Harris. W.G. Finney, and T. G. Clayton, and on an invitation twelve of the white pris- oners and twenty-eight of the colored signed the pledge. as also some of the officers.
