THE EVENING STAR. AMurderer Hunted Downs. An Epgiisbman, about twenty-toar years of | Age, named Samarl Mills, m charg: et two om Heacqnarters, last evening, on the way East, to amswer to the charge of a mard-r commitied om the Sth of December last, at ‘ranconia, N.H. The murder is descrived as tality. His viewm, Georee head severed trom his body ter which the house was rob- ite valuables. A team was taken trom the stable, and with this the murderer érove toGorbam, a distance of forty miles. and then took the Grand Trank Railway to Canada. lt was evident that the murder had been committed when the victim was eating his supper. and, increaible as it may seem, the Murderer actually finished;the repast, sfter cut- ting off tbe man’s bead. This was established by the fact that bloody finger marks were found upon a knife and fork, some biscuits, cup, and other accessories to the table. Some circomstances tended to fix suspicion upon the man now under arrest, Samuel Mills, who is an English miner and at the time of the mar- der, waeht work in the Lisboa Gold Mine, about ten miles from Francon:® Accordingly, a re- ward of $500 was offered by the selectmen of Franconia for his arrest. This induced the detectives ot Boston to take the matter in band. Mills being a miner, it was thougnt prebabie that be would resort toa mining district, and to allsuch places handbilis were forwarded, giving @ full description of his person and manners. This led to his arrest a few days since, in Galepva, Illinois. The prisoner strenuously denies all knowledge of the crime, bar it is said that one of the Boston detective<, on firet reaching Galena. turned the man’s pantaioons pockets inside ont, and found them stained with blood, where, as would seem, he bad thrust his hands into them. He is about twenty-four vears of age, dark sallow | complexion, low toreheal, very high cheek | bones, dark, r,and larce nd sen- -—Dr. Samuel Warren, author of «Ten Thou-and a Yer? recently wrote a letter to the Miyorof Hall, England, to say that defore leaving tor Lon. don be desired to make & practical suggestion to the housekeepers of the town.
