Biackfeet, and Sausa- raes lett Tongue river on the 12th instant for Fort Phil. Kearney, and on the 224 Indians were discovered near the Fert. Brevet Lieut. Colonel Fetterman, Capt. Brown, and Lieuc. Grummond, with ninety enlisted men, left the fort to give battle. Nothing more was heard from them uptil & party sent out from the fort found them at a distance of four miles lying dead, Col. Fetterman and his entire command having been massacreed by the Indians, M. T. Patrick, Upper Platte Agent. Magruder & Co., on the Sa inst., brought be- tore Justice Tucker the three men arrested by them for the act. Their names are Alexander Ferris, Edward Hathaway, and Martin alias Reddy Walsh. Hathaway was arrested by Detective Clarvoe at the railroad depot last Wednesday night when he was about depart- ing from the city, carrying with him the tools which were taken to the depot for bim b: ML on who tried hard to screen his friend, but his conduct only served to faster suspicion apon Hathaway. he Detective knowing his man let Reddy slide for the time, and by keep- ing Hathaway in dread of a pisto] shot man- Aged to take him and the tools to police head- quarters. ES ie German TURNERS.—The delegates of the different associations eelonging to the “south- eastern district” of the Turnerbund held their semi-annual meeting tn this city yesterday This district is formed by the associations of Baltimore, Washington, Geergetown, Rich- mond and Martinsburg. The board has its seat in Baltimore. The president, W. Ecke bardt, and the secretary, W. Schnautffer, were present. Important questions for the welfare of the district were brought up and satisfacto- rily settled. The statistical reports handed in showed a considerable increase of members and great activity in the several branches of the gymnastic arts. According to the expres- sions of the delegates, & general participation on the forthcoming Bundes-Tarntest, at Bal- timore, in June next, is manifested. After the adjournment, the delegates were entertained by the Georgetown Association with a dra- matic performance, which ended st a late hour, when the delegates were conveyed to their quarters at Gerhardt’s Hotel.
