Clagett in the chair, and J. J! Chapman secretary. The President announced that the skating pond had been fluoded, the feace around it completed, and if cold weather should con- tinue, it would be open to the public on Mon- day or Taesday of next wees. The inquiry, «What's out?” was frequently heard ameng the groups of pedes- trinns as the squads passed. The movement of the police indicated nothing wrong. The: ‘were only conforming to a recent order, whic is ap improvement upon the old manner of relieving guard. Heretofore there was no reg- ularity except in the roll-call and departure of the men to their beats. By the new order, the relief guard is required to meet at the station, answer roll-call, uniforms and accoutrements to pass inspection, .and the sergeant of the relief marches bis squad to each beat, relieving the guard on duty, who fails in the place ot his relief, and so the squad march round tl all are relieved, and then the old guard is marched back to the station.
