Mr. Fow- fer, in behalf of the Fire Commissioners, in re- ply to an inquiry of the Board at the last meet- ing, stated that the law making appropriation for the purchase of a steamer required that a suflicieney of stock should be sold by the clerk to pay for the same before a contract could be made. The commissioners had ob- tained all necessary information as toeificiency and costs of steamers, but up to the time re. ferred to no coptusact bad been made. The commissioners subsequently held a meeting, and ordered a steamer to cost $3.500. Mr. G dard, from streets committee, reported an or- dinance supplemental to an ordinance tur the improvement of a partof Lingan street. Mr. Barrett presented a remonstrance from prop- erty owners on Lingan street against the pr posed improvement. The ordinance was r jected.
