Patterson, Senator elect trom New Hampshire, this evening. — —e Destructive Fime—The New York Bakery Dextroyed— Firemen Injured.—Last evening, fire eas Giseovered im tne stable attached to the New York Excelsior Bakery, on B street, near the canal. An alarm was sounded from the Central Guardhonse by officer Tucker, and the fre department was quickly on hand. The fire was first discovered by the watchman, and he, With others, made an attempt to enter the abies, but were deterred by two ferocious < inside. 1t is supposed that the fire origi- pated in the engine-room adjoining the stable. ‘The flames quickly spread to the main baild- ‘eg. In which was the bakery, eapplied with macbinery and a large stock of materia’, but httle of which (and thal-from the lower story) was saved. The apparatus was promptly at work, but were powerless to save the main butlarng, which was entirely destroyed. The James spread to the one.story building on the east side, owned by Mr. Tanssig, in which Mr. \ S. Brady bad « quantity of Property stored, snd that. too, was almost entirely destroy . A lew pictures were saved from this building, but & number of billiard tabie fixtures, gas i and bar-room furniture, worth about 31,500, on which there was po insurance, was destroyed. The borse and carriage bazaar of Messrs. W. L. Wall & Co. was damaged somewbar by the fire and the falling of the walls of the bakery, as also was the one- story building owned by Mr. W. H. Philp and formerly ceeupted by Jobn Farrell as a produce bouse. In the stable of Mr. Taussig were four valuable horses, which were burned to death. The business was managed for Mr. Taussig by Mr B. Katz, who had fourteen men employed, and it ts estimated that his loss, in- cluding mrchinery and stock, will be about 26.000, on which there is an insurance of SiH This fire occurring in the early part of the evening drew together a large crowd, and had the effect of thinning the andi- ence attending the performances at Wall's pera House, in the immediate vicinity. Lyons. of New York, and was in- sared in the People’s Company, Worcester, ass. for $2.50¢. The total loss is variously estimated at from $15,000 to $20,000.
