By returns received trom the local land office at San Francisco, California, it is shown that 2.116 acres were disposed of daring August; of 7 were sold for cash, 719 were taken which 1, for actual settlement, and the rest was located with warrants. At the land office at Stockton, California, 2,406 acres were disposed of during the same month. Of this amount, 1,502 acres were sold for cash, 524 were taken for actual Fetrlement, and the rest located with agricul- tural college scrip.
