Ne- groes and whites are alike engaget in steal- ing, and until an example is made of some of the humerous offenders, the thieves will con- tinue to ply their avocation.. They should be cealt wih summarily and to the fall extreme that the law allows. itis stated thata very daring robbery was perpetrated on the Washington and Alexan- mia Turnpike, near the Long Bridge, on turday night last, by three negroes, who idly seized and carried off a wagon loaded ith furniture. The robbers have not yet been canght, although the police are on their track and will doubtless capture the party. The hegroes in the surrounding country are get- ong bolder im their depredations ‘and steps should be taken to reuedy the evil at once. Woodcock. jacksnipe, wild-pigeon, sammer- duck, sora and reed birds now abound in this eighborhood, but the sportsmen de not rumber as many now, asin years before the war. Wm x. ——_ Trees, &c.—_For many years the firm of | James S. Topham & Cox, 500 7th street, have taken the first prizes at the leading exhibitions ‘n the country, for superior workmanship in the way of trunks, saddles, harness, &c., &c.; and their names are so well established for re- liability that any ticles coming frem their establishment are accepted as first class, with- out besitation or question. And customers haveslro proved to their satisfaction that the wares of Topham & Co. are not only of first class workmanrhip, tasteful, handsome, well- made, and of the best material, but also that the prices are even lower than those charged for inferrer articles elsewhere. These facts account for the great amount of business done by this enterprising firm. We heartily re- commend all in quest of trunks, valices, tra- yeling satcbels, saddles, harness, &c., to pay visit to Topham & Co., 500 7th street. ee rece eas CARRYING CONCEALED WEAPONS. —This morning, at a very early hour, Sergeant Franklin and officer Rarkley, of the Third Ward, arrested Geo.
