This will he most durable than common white- wash. ° Heres another recipe, which farms a hard sate and is more durable then common freshly-burned unslaked lime and re. duce it to powder. To one peck or one bushel of this add the same quantity of fine white sand or fine coal ashes, and twice as much fresh ‘wood ashes, all these being sifted through a fine sieve. Afterwards m' them With as muck common linseed oil as will make the whole thin enough to work freely witha nar crush This will make a paint of light gray stone color, nearly white. 'o make it fawn or drab, add yellow ochre and Indian red; if drab is desired, add burnt umber, In- dian red, and a little black: it dark stone color, add lamp-black; or if brown stone, then add Spanish brown. All these colors should, of course, be first mixed in oil and then added. This paint ismuch cheaper than common oil paint, I: is equally well suited io wood, brick sorstone. To these officers Mr. Bishop wade a statement, declaring that his wife was imsane—a fit subject for a lunatic asylum—and whe detectives having entered Mr. Bisnop’s house, seized Mrs. Bishop and conveyed her i mage, notwithstanding all her protes- tations of perfect sanity, to the police station at Mulberry street. Here the lady was locked up in a room. her ecreams for heip were loud; the officers, whe were accompanied by Mr. Bisbop, opened the door, and they soon qe fied themeelves that the allegations as to the | insanity of Mrs. Bishop were without foun- dation. In 1£66, Mr. Bishop appeared to grow fond of bis wife, said her health was not good, and urged ber to travel for the benefit of it. For abe purpose of making srrangements for a journey to see her husband’s friends in Maine, and her own in St. John’s, N.
