Bell, read the lesson, the 9th to the 23th verses inclusive, of the 9d chapter of I. Corinthians. Presiding Elder, Rey. B. Brown, an- bounced the tollowing text, from which he preached an appropriate and instrnetive di-- « ourse—Reveiations, 2d chapter, 17th verse :— “To him that overcometh evil will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in that stone a new name written which no man knoweth save he that nameth it.” At the conclusion of this sermon the choir sang an appropriate hymn while a coilection was taken up. The metallic box, containing a copy of the Bible. of the Discipline, Hymn Book, Christian Advocate, Methodist Almanac, 1866, names of all the eburch officers and of the twachers and officers o: the Sabbath school. subseribers to the erection of the church, gold, silver, and copper American coms, &c., was set in the corner-stone by the pastor, assisted by Messrs. Cissell and Rodgers, and the exercises were closed with the doxology and benediction. The'new chureh will pe 65 by 47 feet, with a basement 10 feet in the clear, entirely above ground, in which will be the Snnday school Toom and several class rooms. The audience Toom will be 22 feet in the clear, which, in- cluding the galleries, will give sitting room for nearly 1.20 persons. The general pian of the cburch is taken from the East Washington Methodist Church. The estimated cost of this improvement will be about £15,000. The present contract contemplates only the com- pletion of the basement and the covering in of the butiding proper. the amount of which is something over $11,000, and the basement is to be ready tor use in about four months. Of the sum required, over $5,000 bas already been raised, « number of societies having materially aided. Nugent, compose the building com- mittee. —— RESULT_OF SLEEPING ON THE Geor Fioon.—Yesterday morning, at an early hou & colored man, named Hinton, while passin through the Smithsenian zrounds, was called by & girl named Aun Rives, whose clothing | Was saturated with blood. Upon inquiring of her what the matter was. she told him she had slept Om the grounds the night previous witha man, and hefore daylight she awoke and found her eompaaion lying in « pool of blood. Hinton immediately notified officer Steele. who had the man and woman removed to the Second Ward Station. The man gave his name as Levi Meredith. The wound which resulted in the hemorrhage was an ugly fracture of the head near the right temple. It appeared to have been done with a stone. No explanation of the affair has been given, but it is supposed Meredith was beaten and robbed by some one during the night. Meredith was turned over to bis friends, but bis female companion = fined $5 for drunkenness by Justice Mor- sell. The flames spread to two adjoining houses ewned by Michael French. The first mentioned house was seriously damaged, the roof was burnt off, and the interior badly burned. The otber houses were not so badly injured. The houses were all old, and the damage to them, we learn, were fully covered by insurance: but the furniture of the tenants, which was considerably damaged py water, especially that belonging to Mr. Moore, which was much injured, was not insured.
