—~. THE EVENING STAR. The Treaty of Peace between Austria and | Prussia. | The.repurt received by the Atiantic bese ae that a treaty of peace had been conc ear between Austria and Prussia, seems to be generally believed to be correct. Reterring to we report, the New York Tribune remarks: The information conveyed by the telegraph ss. of course, meager, but it is sufficiently defi- | A! nite to Jeave no doubt that Austria has acceded to all tbe chief demands of Prussia, We are not yet fully infermed about of all these de- mands, but we know, from official and semi-, eMcial declarations of the Prussian govera- ment, that the mostessential condition of peace i= (be withdrawal of Austria from the German ConteGeragion. which will naw be recon- structed under the sole and undisputed lead of Prussig. It is equally certain that Prussia will not keep the two Duchies of a Schleswig and Holstein, whether asa Prussiaa province er undef the sembiance of semi-independence remains to be seen. bot acl hp etc cad Prossiam papers pave Jared, in accordan. with the pe expressed by Lonis Napoleon in bis letter to Drowyn de Lhuys, that Prus- *\a must insist op having the western and the eastera portions of the kingdom permanently connetted. We have to wait for later accounts to know if this ratjfication of frontier is to be effected by means of annexation or by exchange of provinces. We are, on the other hand, as- surred that Prussia was got to claim the ces- son of Bobemia and Moravia, and as the | ground of this restriction the non-German character of their population is adduced. Such & ground seems to suggest that Prussia the annexation, or at least the tion, from Austria of those provinces ch are purely German, as Upper and Lower Austria and Salzburg. It is, however, probable that, having obtained the chief end et herambition, Prussia will not insist on de- img any Austrian territory, but leave the fate of th ermans of Austria to be decided by the future. | However this question may be settled, the triumph of Prussia is complete. Whatever tbe nominal relation of the smaller German States im the reconstructed Contederation, with its poprlauon of over 40,000,000 of people, will be idenucal with Prussia, which henceforth Will not be second, in power and influence, to apy of the great European power. Ter NEw York MORGUE anp ITs Uses.-- Our readers will remember that some tume since & building called the Morgue was for- maily opened in New York. To this building are taken the bodies of all unknown persons | found dead in that city, and in it they are ex- posed to view for three days after besmg found, so that their friends can identify them. The Morgue is kept open dav and night, and in order to assist the identifieation of bodies, the clothes worn when found remain with them, and the features are kept in as good preserva- Uon as possible by & constant stream of cold water running over them. Whilst it bas been im existence, the Morgue has assisted im the mn of many dead bodies found in New York. which were at once given up to their friends forinterment. The number found an the city averages six per week, generally being the bodies of suicides, although during the late heated term many persons who dropped dead from sunstroke were Tied, there for identification. During the last week no less than 70 dead bodies of unknown ns were found im New York and earried to the Morgue—many of whom, however, were not identified, and had to be buried at the public cbarge. This shows that in great cities people can live and die without any one person of the thousands around them knowing who or what they are — Phila. There is said to be no other street in New York which calls for such immediate attention from the Board of Health as Mulberry street, where forty andfifty families are, in many instance, occupying the same house, with sanitary arrangements of the most de- ficient character. ee oN FOR ONE, MEAT FoR THE OTRER— Testing experiment has been in progress) me time t_at the Royal Veterinary ege at Cainden Town, England) A nom- ber of healthy dogs have been fed upon the most diseased portions of cattle which have died of the rinderpest, some of the meat having been given to them raw and some in a cooked te.
