HORRIBLE MURDER YEAR Wooprury, N. 1} —Between one and three o'clock, on Wednesday morning, Mr. George Raymond, residing om his farm. about one mile from Woodbury, N.J.. was brotaily murdered in Bis bed. The Philadelphia Ledger gives the following account of the tragic affair: Mr Raymond and his wife satin the porch of their dwelling on Tuesday evening until near ten ©’clocl, when they retired to their room in the second story. Mrs. Raymond being unwell, Mr. Raymond sat alongside of the bed, and read until bis wife fell asleep. He then went inte ap adjoining room ai retired for the nigh. About three o’clock on Wednesday mornmg, Mrs. Raymond was aroused by a noise a8 if something was dropping upon the floor. She felt for her hushand, and finding that he was absent, got up and hurried to th ether room. thinking her husband was sick She soon discovered. however, that her hns- band was dead, and her screauis aroused one of thé neighbors, who immediately ran to the house. Upon examining the deceased, it was found that he bad been st-uck on the temple, en the chin and throat with an axe, which had been removed from the woodshed on the pisce. The axe was found in the kitchen down stairs, covered with blood, and a pair of boots belonging toastranger were found in the yard. He was at one time editor ofthe Whig, published in Biair county. Pa A NEw FILIntSTERING PLOT.—A corraspon- Gent of the Cleveland Herald who signs him- self a “One armed detective” has discovered a mare's nest of the first magnitude. “For nearly a year past,’’ hé says, a scheme has been on foot to send an armed party to some of the Central American ports, seize the country and organize & purely Yankee republic. A band of New Mexicans 1s alse to leave some of the Texan ports at the same time. The projectors of this scheme have been both secret and expert. One third of the sppsrent workmen and loafers who lounge around your street corners are the *worn adberents of this young filibuster. ————$————$____ Pic Le Saveo iv—There is ancld saying | tha: salt won't save things: but salt, or at least pickle, did save the store of Mr. J. L. Weeks, apd with ita yast amonat of Property in the direction of the Grand Trunk Depot. Mr. Weeks did not remeve an article from bis shop. and alargeamountof valuable furniture was taken there for storage. When “Sebastopol” was on fire everybody thought Weeks’ sho; must go. But the owner was determined. if there was any virtue in salt, to save his prop- y. With the assistance of a few meu, who stood the scorching heat bravely, the building was kept saturated with- pickle, and it was saved. The front of it shews what was done. It is, and was, in a “prety pickle.” Great itis due Mr. Weeks for his efforts, which undoubtedly prevented the flames from <pread- ing vowards the Grand Trunk Depot. —ertland Post.
