S. Perham, of Me., in the chair, and Mr. L. Deane, of Me., Secre- tar, ; Sa Spalding and Deane reported that subscription lists had been distributed. Reports were made from the following: Hon. Horatio King, that he, with the assistance of Mr. McClellan and Joseph A. Ware, had col- lected in the Post Office Department, $299, ot which Postmaster General Dennison, gave #100, Jos. A. Ware, $25,and Mr. McClellan S20. Mr. King had already sent, besides the subscription, $100. Mr. iley, of the Globe office, that he had collected trom Messrs. Philp « Solomons $100; Blanchard & Mohun, $50: and from the Chronicle office $50. Mr. C. A. Pitcber reported that Mr. Henry S. Davis had given $100, and Mr. J.C. Lewis $50. Mr. Per- bam, chairman, said that between $600 and $700 bad been collected in the House ot Repre- sentates, and was deposited to the credit of the Mayor of Portland. Mr. Hooper, of Mass.,had given a check for $500, and Hon. Mr. Alley, $50. Mr. T. J. Hobbs, of the Treasury Depart- ment, for Mr. Hartley and himself, reperted that they had received partial returns from five bureans. in which $575 had been sub- scribed, $375 of which had been paid. Mr. Hobbs thonght the subscriptions trom the Treasury Department would amount to $1,200 or $1,500. Hon. Hugh McCulloch gave $100, and Admiral Shubrick $25. Mesers. Moses Sweetser, C. A. Pitcher, and | Gen. O. O. The exbibition was gotten up, R is said, by Mr. Thomas Taylor, proprietor of a restau rant on D, near 133 street, who had arranged jor the distribution of premiums to the best pu- gilists. It was announced that Boulster and English would appear: but for reasons best known to themselves they did not. Early in the evening a bar was set up, to accommodate the company with liquor, and Serg’t Skippon hearing of it, inquired as to the liquor, He was told that the Mayor had given permission. He reported to Supt. Richards, ‘who directed him to enforce the law. The Ser- geant went to the Hall, took possession ot the bar-room, and lecked it up. The Mayor, it ‘was ascertamed, had given no such permis- sion. Rs gate ‘was between several parties, some of whom displayed considerable skill, among them some resentatives of the Ma- Tine Corps.
