It 1s worth while also to descend to the base- ment to note the admirable appointments there for providing the creature comforts in the most appetizing forms. The ranges and boilers are so constructed as tbat all the cooking odors which usually infest the whole estab- lishment im our hotel structures are eonyeyed away by the chimney. The liquor vaults, ale vaults, ice vaults, store rooms, &c., present an array of coud things well calculated to make the epicurean inouth water, all serving to show the compre- hensive and Satisfactory scale upon which Messrs. Owen & Thompson have prepared themselves to entertain tne public. in passing to the upper stories the eye Is at- tracted by the elegance and tastefulness of the decorations. Leading to the rooms along the halis, as wells; to the different stories, the most costiy and beautiful patterns of Brussels carpets are used. while the dining sajioons and bed chambers are uniformly carpeted with fine tbree-ply ingrain of handsome green, dotted with 4 delicate red rose. Fronting the avenue, and adjoining the office, is the principal dining saloon, tastefully and appropriately furnished, the walls being embellished with oil paintings, embracing landscape and scriptural subjects, ail works of art,and many quite valuable. Two magnificent mirrors, reaching from floor to ceiling, and asplendid black walnut side- board, with furniture to match. are noticeable affixes of tbis apartment, as also the numerous neat little dining tables arranged about. Ad- joining is anotber dining saloon, similarly tur- nished, and suited for Indies or private par- ties. The bu- reaus are of black walnut, with marble tops and mirrors, and washstands, with marble tops, towel racks, water, gas, and ingrain car- peting, as noticed above, complete the contents of a chamber The “Owens House” really affords wnat has fong been needed in this city in the way of an elegant, cozy, comfortable esiablishment where n be supplied with every luxury i a first class Hotel at very mod- erate cost: the establishment being conducted on the European system, that is: “Pay tor nothing but whatyou get, and order mea's when you please.” ——————— LAvING OF A Connex Stone.—Yesterday attern-on the Isying of the corner stone of the addition to Providence Hospital, at the corner of 2d street east and D street south, took place im the presence of quite a large number of spec- tators. among Whom were several pastors of the city churches and many prominent citi- zens. The ceremony was to have been performed +y Right Rev. Archbishop Spaulding, of Bal- timoye, but he bemg detained by sickness. Rev. Fathir Coskery, the Vicar General, officiated in his place, and subsequently made a very eloquent and interesting address. Hon. J. W. Patterson, Senator elect from N. Hi., was next introduced, and was followed by Rey. Dr. Samson, of Columbia College, Hon T A. Hendricks, of Ind., Hon. B. B. French, Commissioner vf Public Buildings, and Dr. Tyler, of Georgetown. Each of the speakers endorsed the institution in warm terms, and the Iast named, who is connected with it, spoke of the usefulness of it since it was founded in 1°61, it being the only place during the war where the citizen sojourner could re- ceive beme-like attention This institution is under the charge of the Sisters of Charity and a corps of physiciens, and supplies the place of the Washington In- irmary. which was destroyed by fire in the Winter of 1S61-"62, and will accommodate many more patients. This addition will form one wing to the hos- Pital buildings, and in the course of a few years itis expected that another wing will be ded. a TILL TAPPERS AND Sneak Tureves.—For some weeks past the citizens of the Second and ‘Third Wards and the market bave been much annoyed by the depredations of a gang of col- ored juvenile thieves ranging from 12 to Is ‘vears of age. The officers of the Third Ward bave been looking for them for some days, and succeeded in arresting several of the ty yesterday. Officer Miller, of the Second Ward, arrested Anthony Wilkinson, alias Randolph, colered, and took him tothe Central Guard- house, from whence he was sent to jail for a bearing by Justice Morsell.
