The school was tastefully decorated. and the pupils, each with a pretty boquet on her desk, made quite a pic- turesque scene. Miss Bailey bas met and over- come the difficulties which she encountered at the beginning of the school year. Her classes are well up to the standard, and they exhibit- ed & promptness in the answers that was sur- ing toall present. The appearance of the school was higbly creditable to the teacher and pupils, and the examination (it the expression can be allowed,) was & magnificent one. “ Secondary No.3, Miss M. Mills, 19th and I streets, was examined by Mr. Wilson, and passed & very fine examination. Secondary No. 4, in charge of Miss Brown, consisting of 60 small boys, was also examined by Mr. iison. The examination, especially as regards spelling, reading, and mental arith- metic, Was good, and the order observed was excellent. Male Grammar School, 3d District, in charge of Mr. McUatbran, was examined on Monday by Messrs. Waleh. Clark and Johnson. The school numbers 45 pupils, 400f whom were present. and for several hours they were sub- jected to & severe examination in studies, but stood it manfally, showing uniform pro- Bciency. The vocal music by the school was very good. Female Grammar School, in charge of Mrs. M.A. Ramsey, was examined on Tuesday by the same gentlemen and showed good progress. especially in arithmetic, the celerity which they ciphered out difficult problems ing remarked by all.
