Mr. Brown offered a resolation, which was adopted, instracting the Committee on the Ju- diciary to inquire into the expediency of pro- viding by law for such reorganization of the civil service, especially as to the Post Office, Treasury and Interior Departments, so as to secure appointments after examination; to reg- ulate dismissals and promotion s, as ey are reguiated in the Army and Navy, tothe end that the patronage of these Debartments may not be used as a reservoir of pofitical power, ete. B. Ellis, the examining trustee, Mr. Murtagh, being absent from sickness in his family. The school is situated on 4, near N street south, and is one of the first that was built by the corporation, and is about large enough fora hat and cloak room for the pu- pils. There were present at the examination 49 pupils, all temales, that being the number on the roll. They acquitted themselves in all their exercises, and especially in arithmetic and spelling, in a manner to call forth the highest praise trom the examiner.
