In default of payment thereof he Was sentenced to the workhouse for % days. The triends of the boy interesting themselves sn his behalf, represented the case to the offi- cers of the Freedmen’s Bureau, whereupon the Judge Advocate, Major Hambrick, ad- vised a collection among his friends of the amount necessary to obtain his release. Re. heving that the corporation authorities were bound to receive their own scrip in payment of their own dues, they raised and tendered to his Honor the called for amount in that spe- cies of funds.
