LATEB FROM THE FENIANS*+ ‘The Government is in receipt of inteifigence from Malone, New York. dated yesterday, stating that great confusion existed there among the Fenians, owing principally to the arrest of their leaders. About 1,200 of the brotherhood have been started in a homeward direction by the United States authorities within 3 few days past. The case of General Sweeny and other Fenian leaders, it is stated, will be disposed of to-day. The Fenian rank and file seem yery despondent over the action of the Government in frustrating their plans. Se CANAL AND SEWERAGE COMPANY. Mr. Thomas, of Maryland, is making a strong argument to-day in opposition to the pill giving the Washington city canal to the Uanal and Sewerage Company—so called. Mr. Thomas commenced by showing that passage of the bill would be a gross violation of the chartered privileges ef the Chesapeake and Obio Canal Company, and an act of injus. tice to Washington city. THE FENIAN LEADERS TO ONLY ety! BE In reply to an inquiry of District Attorney Dart, at Pottsdam, New York, as to whether any of the subordinate officers and men of the Fenian prisoners should be indicted, the At- torney General telegraphed instructions to- day to indict the leaders enly, and to prose- cute them for breach of the United States neu. trality laws with such diligence as would be consistent with the dignity of the United States. PUINT OF BOCUKS ROAD. The House to-day passed the bill allowing the Point of Rocks Railroad to enter the city of Washington, coupled, however, with the re. dvérement that the road shall be built within a year. ene eee torte SCABCITY OF FOOD IN SOUTH CAROLINA. Av Acting Assistant Commissioner of the Burean of Refugees, Freedmen, &c., in South Usrolina, has recently made a thorough tour of inspection, and has reported the conclusions derived therefrom to the Assistant Commis- stoner. He thinks that the supply of labor is inadequate to the demand. but that where subsistence is not wanting Iabor will be quite as productive this season as at other seasons, when capital owned Ixbor. In the district of Cbestertield the supply of provisions is nearly exhausted, and great suffering will come upon all classes, unless speedily relieved by the Government. Itis estimated that 9,000 bush. els of corn and 100,006 pounds of bacon, pro- visions for three months, in addition to that now m the hands of the planters, will be re- quired to eupply the necessary labor until the harvesting of the crops. These supplies the planters have neither the cash nor the credit to purchase, and unless relief comes from the Goverbment, inany of the plantations will be abandoued by the freedmen, who will goin search of employment where they can get sufficient food. INTERNAL REVENUE.—The receipts from this source yesterday were $',011,975.68, and the receipte for to-day were $547,072.18. —+28e- —____ AXXIXTH CONGRESS—FIRST SESSION. ‘FuEspay, June 12 SenaTe®.—Mr. Anthony offered a resolution the Commissioner of Patents for 1866. to the Committee on ge Mr. Wilson from the Military Committee, reported the House bill for the settlement of accounts of certain public officers. It is aflirmed that Austria has positively re- fured to entertain any project for the cession of Venetia, and bad made over Holstein t0 the Germanic Conference. The Times, in view of this action by Austria, regards the Conference as almost bupetess in ensuring peace. Apprebensions are entertained that all the seven Powers may not be represented at the conference. Military preparations continue. In the Honse of Commons, the debate on the reform bill was continned. and & division was expected on Capt. Hoyter’s amendment in fa- vor of 8 postponement on the fourth. It is re- ported that if the Government have a major- ity they will withdraw the measure, bat if @efeated resignation is considered likely, or even the dissolution of Parliament. Po- luce!” As no policemen were convenient, and the cries were redoubled, several gentlemen, who bappened in the vicinity, effected an en- trance to the bouse and meetinga man de- scending the stairs in an airy costume and considerable of a hurry, inquired of him the cause of the onicry. His answ t was that he believed there was a man in the house. Learning that the man which had occasioned so much perturbation had taken refuge in a wardrobe. and in a lady’s chamber, those in advance hurried thither, and found five other men, in ghostly attire, standing before the mysterions wardrobe consulting as to the safest method of attack. One of the last comers, acting under the impression that man for man was fair battle, at once threw open the ‘wardrobe door, and found concealed therein— nobody.
