A full crew, with arms and ammunition of war, were put on board at Long Island Sound, when she stood to sea. The vessel is an iron, side-wheel steamer, an ex-British bloekade-runner and ex-United States gunboat, and was sold at Philadelphia last August for $19.000, and was towed here. It is said to be in the condition m which she was ler: by the Navy Department, and mounts six broadside guns and one pivot gun. a Fenians are said to have bcught her for 301,000. it is said that she is capable of making four- teen knots an bour, and that it is the intention to pounce on one of the Cunard steamers. PBECIOUS STONES OF WISCONSIN. A beautiful piece of gray cornelian has been received at the General Land Office, weighing seventeen ounces. It was picked up on one of the streets of St. Croix, Wisconsin, and when found presented a very rough appear- ance, having laid on the street, where it was trampled under foot and ground beneath the wheels of vehicles, the marks of which it bears. It is intended to be placed in the meneralogical cabinet of the General Land Office. e OFFICE SEEKING. The reduction of force recently made by the order of the Secretary discharging fifty first class clerks, because there was not sufficient employment for them, seems to have no effect, whatever, upon ofilce seekers, most of whom appear to think that the order referred to was issued to make reom for new clerks, on the principle of rotation in office, judging from the profusion of the applications for places re- ceived at the Treasury daily. pss Rae i New Hampshire Militia to be Called Out. ,Concorp, N. While standing at the corner of the alley a policeman named David Cudder, belonging the 6th pre- cinct, came along with a bundle of old clothes and took Dickinson in custody. Cudder was uite drunk, and first took Dickinson before ustice Barnaclo, who seeing he was drunk, sent bim out. The officers of the court inquired who gent ears ‘was and what he was doing there, when Cudder replied that he had a bench warrant for him, but after a his pock- ets could find nosuch document. The officers of the court not having any record ofa bench warrant, Qudder was directed to the Fourth Ward police station. Here be made several in- coherent statements to Sergeant Eckloff, who ascertained that he belonged to the Third Ward, and directed him w take his prisoner to his own station. Cudder then left with the man, and when he got as far as 5th street told Dick- inson he could go, but the latter demand- ed that he should be taken toa statien, and Cudder started up Sth street, quite a large crowd fellowing, composed in the main of bootblacks, and in the procession were several persons, the Canterbury and other advertising placards, Sergeant Eckloff finding that Cud- der was attracting too much attention, sent officer Brosnan after him, and he overtaking the procession near the corner of I street, turned the head of the column and marshaled it back to the Fourth Ward station, where Cud- der was locked mp. and Dickinson released. Last evening Cudder had a hearing before Justice Walter, who fined him $10 for being drunk and gave a severe lecture, and after he hed been stripped of his uniform, by order of the Superintendent, he was allowed to go.
