The executive committee reported a resolu- tion providing that the series of mass meetings not ended be closed by a meeting at Odd Fel- lows’ Hall, to be addressed by Mr. Fincher, of the Trades Review; postponed till next meeting of the Convention. The pris- ouer was placed on trial several weeks ago, and during the course of the trial, the District Attorney, after closing the prosecution, finding he had not evidence on which a conviction could be mude, moved that the Court direct the withdrr.wal of a juror, which was done, Sudthe accused was remanded in custody. His counsel, Messrs. Norris and Drury, moved his discharge, arguing that the defendant could mot be placed in jeopardy a second time. Ins- trict Attorney Carrington argued that a juror could be withdrawn by the Court and the case continued. Judge Fisher announced that he Wwouid give an opinion this morning. —abcainginienmenis DEsTRUCTIVE Fike t% ALEXANDRIA—The Most destructive fire in Alexandria for many years, occurred im that place on Tuesday night. It broke out in the back part of of the 5 ae building occupied as a restaurant, by George Huntington, on the south side of King. between Royal and Fairfax streets. The flames spread rapidly and soon extended to the adjoming building, on the west, also frame and occupied by Mr. Edward Glachett,as a confectionery and fruit store. These, with the store of Mr. Charles C. Berry, and the ad- joining building. on the west, belonging to the estate of R. Y. Cross, and recently occupied by H ©. Fields as a shoe store, were destroyed, and many of the adjacent buildings badl: damaged.
