The services, musical and otherwise, at the ¥arious Catholic and Episcopal Churches, Were unusually attractive yesterday. At St. Aloysius yesterds morning High Mass was celebrated’ by Kew BE. At half-past 10 ain. solemn high mass was performed, Rev. J. if Bokel, pastor of the church, being the cele- brant, assisted by the Very Rev. Father Call. Mozart's twelfth mass was performed in tine style by theexcelient choir, the principal parts being taken by Mr. Jno. H. Mattinny. Mr Brown, Miss Mattingly, Mrs. Renshaw, Mr. lardelia, and others: organist, Mr. Misspangh. A very large number of communicants were ad- ministered tointhe morning. In the afternoon, & very eloquent and instructive sermon was delivered by the Very Rey. P.C. 0. Carr Provincial of the order. The choir. under the lead of Mrs. King, rendered Haydn's No. 6 Mass. At Trinity (Episcopal) church, corner of 3a and C streets, Rev. Dr. Keeling, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Rolfe, officiated. The choir sang the Easter anthem, « Now is Christ risen from the dead.” The church was decorated with fio and evergreens. In the rear of the ap: were appropriate Scripture mottoes. Mee ‘Theodore Habelman, Heary Steinecke and Madame Johannsen were in the choir. At Christ Church, near the Navy Yard, Rey. Mr. Olds (pastor) officiated. The pnipit and Teading-desk were handsomely decorated with Nowers. Over the altar was a cross composed of white japonicas. The firstservice was held at six o'clock yesterday morning. The ceremo- nies at 11 o'clock began with the communion service, there being a very large nnmber of communicants. At9a.m. the children’s Easter Service was held, and attended by many. The choir, under the leadership of Mr. Cathbert, sang very weil, with Professor Myrick at the organ. At this church two daily services have been beld throughout Lent. At Grace Church, (Episcopal) South Wash- ington, & yery able and interesting sermon, ap- propriate to the day, was delivered by the rector, Key. Dr. Holmead, after which the communion service was administered The musical exercises at this church, under the lead ot Mr. Wm. S. Yeatman, were exceed- ingly fine and attracted much attention. The Musical exercises were as follows :—i. “Praise to the Lord;” anthem by Beethoven, commenc- ing with tenor solo; rendered by Mr. W. D. Gourlay. 2d. “Lawe’s celebrated Eactur Chant in C.” 3d. « Thomas’ great Te Deum in B fist; solos for soprano, alto and basso, which were sung respectively by Miss Anna Yeat- man, Miss Mary Tabor, and Mr. W.S. Yeat- man. Selections from eminent composers for Hymn and Psalm. The ohoir is composed of a quartette. Organist, Mrs. J. E. Holmead. A very interesting Fair is to be opened by the la- dies Sd this flourishing church at Island Hall to-night, At St. John’s (Episcopal) Church, near La- fayette Square, Key. Mr. Lewis preached. Alter the sermor the holy communion was ad- ministered. The music of the choir was se- lected with special reference to the holy festi- yal character of the occasion and was admira- bly performed. The fioral decorations, ar- ranged by the ladies of the society, were exceedingly beautifal. The minor arch in the rear of the chancel was entirely covered with evergreen, upon which wasa large cross five orsix feetin hight, formed entirely of white flowers, principally lilies of the Nile. At the top of the cross was a crown formed of yellow flowers. On each side of the arch were shields bordered with evergreen and inscribed wi:h the words, «Christ is risen,” “The Lord is Risen Indeed.” Upon the chancel rail were S fama boquets and a cross of red and white flowers. The baptismal! font was also wreathed and or- pamented with flowers. Nearly eighty of the attendants at this flourishing church have been confirmed within the past four months. The Lutherans having constantly observed Easter in commemoration of the Resurrection, yesterday St. Paul’s Church, H and i!th streets, ‘was crowded. and the services were of a very interesting character. Rev. Dr. J. G. The pastor chose for his text the wards, “But we preach Christ crucified,” Ist Corinthians. ist chapter, 23d verse, and upon it based a sermon that included all the subjects expected, and that will not soon be forgotten by the members of the congregation. At the conclusion of the discourse the communion was administered by the pastor, assisted by Rev. The meeting was opened with singing by the choir: after which the schoolsangahymn. The pastor thep made & few remarks, after which he introduced Mr. Grinnell, of lows, who delivered an imterest- ing address on the missionary cause. The next speaker introduced was Hon. Mr. Price, who spoke of the increase of the society in the past five years. The President, Lieut. General Grant, Hon Mr. Price, Hon. Mr. Grinnell, and ovhers, were mace life members. The amount received during the evening amounted to up- wards of $2. Tre RESULT OF JeaLovsy.—On Friday, a colored girl named Jennie Pearson, residing in Tin Cup Alley, becoming enraged because her lover had chenged his affections to a girl named Sarah Willams, walked into the room of the latter, and drawing a razor, drew it down Sarab's back, but fertunately it did not Make a deep gash. Jennie was arrested by Officer W. H. H. Evans, and Justice Boswell beld her for court. Dr. Phil- lips was called to attend her, and about 10:30 o'clock she was pronounced out of danger. Roundsman Franklin and Officer Holbrook, of the Second Ward, rendered the physician all the sid in their power during his attendance upon the patient. The affair occurred at the house of Annie Baldwin, No. 225 C street, near Thirteenth. es FUNERAL.—The funeral of the late Josias Adams, Intendautof the Asylum, took place yesterday afternoon, and was largely attend- ed. Among others present we noticed Mayor Wallach, Aldermen Gulick, McCathran, and other members of the City Councils, the Com- missioners of the Asylum, and several corpor- ation officers. The funeral services were con- ducted by Rev. George W. Leech, of the East Washington Methodist Church, and the re- mains were interred in the Congressional Ce- metary. a ASSAULTJAND Batrery.— Yesterday Charles Nugent, a hackman, well known to the police, was arrested by officer Fuss, on the charge of having committed, on Saturday night, assaults on Chas. 1. Waley and Wm. H.
