Mr. H. C. Stew art was called tothe chair and J. H. Barker acted as secretary Mr. W. E. Brown stated that some action Was necessary in regard to certain wholesale dealer’ intertering with the retail trade, and he caused to be read a Ivtter stating that an agent of 2 wholesale Philadelphia firm had of- ered to sell coal to one of the Departments at age 2.0 Mr. Barker stated that the person referred to Was the agent of Messrs. Tyler & Co., and he knew thathe bad made several offers to sell coal at reduced prices, but he had understood that he had withdrawn them subsequently Mr. Miller arged the formation of a perma- nent orgtnization for self-protection. Mr. Wilson asked if the object of the meeting was simply to take mensures in regard to one tnterloper, and stated that the dealers were in- yaring themselves by soliciting customers, of- tering to undersell their neighbors, &c. So common had this practice become that he felt disgraced in the business and would have lett itif he were younger. It seemed to him that we had no redress; that Congress was opposed to us simply because we happened to be born south of Mason and Dixon's line. Mr. Guinand caused to be read a communi- cation in the Star in reference to short weight, and said inquiry was made as tothe dealer referred to, but no one seemed to know. He expressed a hope that all dealers in good stand- ing would form a permanent coal exchange. Mr. Miller said that something should be done to protect dealers from bad customers, and he hoped if a permanent association was formed that all having customers who would hot pay would report their names to the asso- ciation, that the other dealers might not trust such. After some further debate, the association adjourned. ——e THE Sunpay ScHoots.—The Methodist Sun- day Schools of the city have been hoiding very interesting Meetings under the charge of Rev. J.H. Vincent. Mr. Vincent was formerly in the employ of the Sunday School Union of Chicago, and by bis wise management did much towards the advancement of that good cause in the West. He has lately been called by the Methodist Church to the charge of the Sunday School Union cause, with headquarters in New York city, and is stirring up Sunday School people to greater diligence. Sunday afternoon the large audience roem of Wesley Chapel was crowded with children and their friends, Trep- resenting every Methodist School in this city and Georgetown. The exercises occupied but little over an bour, but were exceedingly in- teresting and very profitable. The singing by the children, of hymns carefully selected and neatly printed for the occasion, was very bean- tifal, and the remarks by Rev. Mr. Vincent and others very appropriate. Yesterday afternoon a “Sunday School In- stitute” was held in the pleasant lecture room of Wesley pre oe Church. Theexercises com- menced at} o'clock and continued until half- past five. Mr. Vincent organized the visitors into classes giving them 8 lesson from which they taught, and afterwards gave their plans of teaching. In the evening at 7% o'clock the exercises Were continued, and a large assembly of teach- eTs and officers of our Sunday Schoois united im the meeting. These exercises were quite as imteresting as the others. and all felt themselves so much benefitted that they requested Mr. Vincent to remain with them until another meeting might be held, which he consented to do. car vee Recovery OF QUININE STOLEN PROM THE Meroical PURVEYOR’s.—On the 3d of February last it was reported at Police Headquarters that the building occupied by the Medical Purveyor, corner of 15th and F streets, had been burglariously entered the previous night, and quinme and powder of morphine to the value of over $1,000 had been stolen.
