Low grades of Western Extra are rather heavy, but all other descriptione are main- tained. Rye Flour—Sales reported at €5.75 per bbl. Demand limited and market rather heavy. Corn Meal—Sales of City Mille reported at $4 per bbl. uckwheat Meal—Receipts fair and demand slow at $4.50a%4.60 per 100 Ibs, bulk. Grain.—More business was done in Wheat than for some time past, including 1,000 bueh- ele white in store at 280 cents, 1, bushels common to fair red at 200a225 cents, and 2,000 bushels good and prime do. at 2300243 cents. Market steady at the close for the better grades, Corn was in very moderate demand no ship- pers being m the market. Its professors have been receiving only about $100 a year salary each for four years past. The faculty are of the opinion that the institution cannot be permanently main- tamed without a large contribution from the State, approximating $15,000. They say that if 1t is ellewed in the future to “depend on its own unaided resources, it must decline intoa seminary of very subordinate rank, or become extinct altogether. There is a balance on hand in the poesession of the Proctor, of funds belonging to the university, of $4,910.85; but it is in “Confederate treasury notes.” The funded debt is $35,000. There are fifty-five students im attendance, a majority of whom are disabled Confederate soldiers. It has two immense aq ueducts—one seven miles long and the other three—which bring the water from the mountains tothe very heart of the city; thence by arteries it is distributed in every direction. There are also numerous artesian wells in the me and its suburbs. By boring an Byerage depth of eighty feet the water rises several feet above the surface of the earth, and flows in a very bold stream. In many in- stances this water is not at all brackish, but is as fresh and as sweet as that brought from the mountains.
